It’s the Holy Spirit Novena for Pentecost!
Novenas are an ancient tradition that goes back to the days of the Apostles.
Jesus told His disciples to pray together after His ascension into heaven, so they went to an upper room along with the Blessed Virgin Mary, (Acts 1:14) and joined constantly in prayer for nine days.
These nine days of constant prayer by the Apostles at the direction of Jesus led up to Pentecost. This is when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples as “tongues of fire” (Acts 2:1-4). This pattern of 9 days of prayer, leading up to a feast day or final day, is the basis of the novenas we pray today!
Thus, the novena is an imitation of the Lord’s command to the Apostles when they prayed for 9 days in anticipation of the coming of the Holy Spirit.
And that’s why we pray all of our novenas for nine days, followed by one final prayer on the 10th day (which is usually the feast day).
he Holy Spirit plays a BIG part in our lives.
So, as we pray, ask the Holy Spirit for something concrete and measurable.

I pray that my knee will be completely healed so I can return to work. I broke my patella in February and I’m doing PT. I pray that my Dr does not suggest another procedure.
Also, I pray for my sons to return to Sunday mass and reception of the Eucharist. That they find their vocations and good jobs inspired by the Holy Spirit.
I pray for my siblings who suffer with mental illness- that they will be healed.
I pray for good results for my nephew who is having a cyst biopsied .
I pray for my sweet mom (age 93) to continue to have a full life and that she lives to a ripe old age. I pray that my sister who is her caregiver will allow her more visits and outings. I pray that my sister will lighten up around covid and get all the right facts.

I pray for inner piece for my son, that he may find employment that he truly loves and is able to support his family. He needs to relocate from where he is living because the economy in his area is so expensive and he’s finding it hard to find employment in the field that he is in. He is a hard worker and always has been, but his company is losing jobs and he will probably be laid off shortly. I know like in any family, employment is important. He continually worries about paying his rent and bills. May the Holy Spirit come to him and comfort him.

I pray that my mother will find a way to stop playing her children against one another. She continues to use them for her own gain, and it is tearing the kids apart and not we’re not all really getting along. Instead of us being a united front, mom is tearing us apart. This has been going on for some time and I know she has to mentally sick to do what she is doing. IT’s just so hard some days to deal with it all. Also, she has become a habitual liar, just not necessary to lie, but she’s done it for so long, she can’t stop.
