It’s the Holy Spirit Novena for Pentecost!
Novenas are an ancient tradition that goes back to the days of the Apostles.
Jesus told His disciples to pray together after His ascension into heaven, so they went to an upper room along with the Blessed Virgin Mary, (Acts 1:14) and joined constantly in prayer for nine days.
These nine days of constant prayer by the Apostles at the direction of Jesus led up to Pentecost. This is when the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples as “tongues of fire” (Acts 2:1-4). This pattern of 9 days of prayer, leading up to a feast day or final day, is the basis of the novenas we pray today!
Thus, the novena is an imitation of the Lord’s command to the Apostles when they prayed for 9 days in anticipation of the coming of the Holy Spirit.
And that’s why we pray all of our novenas for nine days, followed by one final prayer on the 10th day (which is usually the feast day).
We will start praying on Friday, May 19th.

Help me with my eyes and let the Ophthalmologist find out what is wrong with my eyes. Give me strength and happiness. Come Holy Spirit I need Thee,
I yearn to be more like You. Take away my imperfections and make me a symbol of Your love, joy and peace! Give me the grace and the courage to return to my former spiritual standing and mold me into something even greater! Before all else I ask for my faithfulness and my example where it matters most! O Holy Spirit I pray for a financial miracle as due to my Cancer surgery & Laboratories, I am now deep in debt with all my credit cards & to one person. Unfortunately I dont have any insurance to cover the expenses. Only Philhealth discount being a senior. I pray for a miracle blessings to be able to pay all my indebtedness as I am only at the moment able to pay the minimum dues. It has now reach a point that the principal ballooned to double as I am only able to pay minimum. I Proclaim the goodness of the Lord our God that since October 18, 2019 I am cancer free. But, the burden of my indebtedness is a big emotional problem now. I am Praying for a miraculous help.
I need help to be healthy. To stay away from excess food and drink. Please pray that I lose weight so that I am healthy enough to work and care for my family. Thank you.
Dear Lord, I am praying for my grandson, who has struggled with addiction. The last couple of months he has worked really hard to leave drugs behind! I pray he will realize that God is always there for him and that he will return to his Catholic Faith. I also pray for his and his Dad’s relationship to improve.
